ARE USED WINTER TIRES WORTH IT?
When it comes to winter tires, at least the winter tires we sell, “used” does not mean poor quality.

While there is certainly degrees of "used" when it comes to winter tires in terms of km's driven and tire tread, we only sell used winter tires that have plenty of life left in them. Some used winter tires are not heavily worn.

HOW CAN YOU TELL?
Stick a toonie into the tread and see how much of the coin the tire covers. Brand new winter tires should reach almost to the bears paws however used tires still have life in them as long as the tire is at least covering a part of the word "DOLLARS".

If there is less than 6/32" treat left, that means the tire will last less than 10,000 km.

WHY BUY USED WINTER TIRES?

Other than the fact most used winter tires you’ll find are in good enough shape, there are other benefits to buying used to keep in mind.

1. Save money.
Compared to new winter tires, used winter tires will probably not last as long but luckily this is factored into what you will pay for them. Used winter tires almost always cost less than new winter tires across all sizes and brands. Often 50% of the price even when there is 75% or more tread left.

2. Help the environment.
Throwing away millions of tires annually has major impacts on the environment and buying used is one way you can help reduce the negative effects.

3. Support local.
Used winter tires are generally sold by nearby salvage yards that employ members of your community. Buying new tires on the other hand can sometimes mean having products purchased and shipped from far away.

PREVENT PREMATURE TIRE WEAR

Now that you know how to identify winter tires that have enough tread on them, let's discuss a couple ways that you can slow down wear and extend the life of your used winter tires.

1. Maintain good tire pressure
Ensuring the proper tire pressure for the season is the best way you can keep your tires healthy.

2. Rotate, balance, align
Every 10,000 km or so you should be rotating and balancing your tires. This way you're preventing uneven tread wear.
